OVERVIEW

One Accord’s HeartShaper curriculum introduces children to God, His Son, His Word, and His Church through active participation in Bible stories and Bible study, multisensory learning, Bible skill-building activities, and focused life application.

More than just telling a Bible story, heart-shaping begins when the youngest children see God’s heart in caring teachers. Heart-shaping continues when preschoolers learn about God’s heart through Bible stories and activities. Heart-shaping can continue for a lifetime by helping school-age kids read, study, pray, and live God’s Word for themselves.

In keeping with One Accord’s dedication to the discipleship of children, HeartShaper provides all of the necessary materials for teachers to take an active part in shaping young hearts for God’s kingdom in a variety of age groups.

Toddlers & 2s

Each Toddlers & 2s lesson is based on simple concepts, songs, sensory activities, and reality-based learning. There are many opportunities for children to explore, discover, and move. Teachers are encouraged to sing, play, talk, and repeat activities, giving young ones time to smile, laugh, and wonder.

Toddlers & 2s is designed to engage children in interactive Bible learning while providing flexibility for unique situations. Bible lessons are based on an understanding of how children at this age learn, and activities are tailored for their range of abilities.

Each lesson includes three easy steps:

  • Activity Time (a variety of exercises designed to help teachers guide children to explore the theme)

  • Bible Time (Bible story or concept presented through illustrations like rhymes, songs, and reality-based objects)

  • Discovery Time (more activities to let children continue exploring the lesson theme)

Preschool/Pre-K & K

Each Preschool and Pre-K & K lesson builds on the concepts taught to younger children, while adding more Bible stories, integrating prereading skills, incorporating simple group games, offering activities that stimulate imaginations, and guiding the teacher to answer lots of questions. Lessons also continue the use of multisensory experiences.

Early Elementary

Early Elementary was developed for the beginning reader and writer. Helpful tips guide teachers in adapting activities to meet the needs of their individual classes while reviewing favorite Bible stories, introducing Bible skills, and keeping their focus on what God asks them to do.

Each lesson includes four easy steps:

  • Focus In (activity options to help teachers introduce the lesson theme and Life Focus)

  • Explore His Word (interaction with a Bible story or Scripture passage, Bible skills practice, and Scripture memorization)

  • Make It Real (activity options to help kids answer, “What does this story or Scripture mean for me?”)

  • Live It Out (activities to help kids do, say, think, and commit in response to God’s Word)

Middle Elementary

Middle Elementary was designed with the knowledge that integrating Bible skills and Bible chronology into the lesson doesn’t mean kids should be expected to sit down and listen. However, attention spans do lengthen, and middle elementary kids are eager to learn about God and how they fit into His plan.

They are also at an age where they can learn large amounts of Scripture, put Bible stories into perspective, and attach meaning to what they have just heard and read.

Preteen

Issues and topics presented at the PreTeen level build on the solid foundation begun in the earlier elementary years. Each lesson is structured to help teachers guide students beyond “right” and “wrong” answers, lead them in meaningful discussion, and encourage them in their commitments to Christ.

SCOPE AND SEQUENCE

The phrase “Scope and Sequence” refers to the content of the curriculum and the order in which that content is taught. Maintaining an intentional scope and sequence is important because it gives teachers and students the assurance that there is a design behind their learning and that they will be guided through the Bible in an appropriate, relevant, and gospel-focused manner. This is certainly the case with HeartShaper curriculum. During the 12 years children experience HeartShaper curriculum, they will make five age-appropriate journeys through the Bible. Bible skills are integrated when learners are ready to develop these abilities. Curriculum for toddlers focuses on one concept for a whole month, while middle elementary learners dive into Bible chronology because they understand time. Learn how HeartShaper helps you introduce God to children in age-appropriate ways by downloading the Scope and Sequence PDF here.
